Adhyāya 168: Arjuna’s counters to māyā-rains and the onset of darkness

अस्त्राणीच्छाम्यहं ज्ञातुं यानि देवेषु कानिचित् । ददानीत्येव भगवानन्रवीत् त्रयम्बकश्न माम्
astrāṇīcchāmy ahaṃ jñātuṃ yāni deveṣu kānicit | dadānīty eva bhagavān abravīt tryambakaś ca mām ||
Arjuna said: “I wish to know the divine weapons—whatever ones exist among the gods.” Hearing this, the Blessed Lord Tryambaka (Śiva) replied to me, “I grant them.”

Spiritual humility and devotion are presented as prerequisites for receiving power; divine weapons symbolize capability that must be aligned with dharma, not personal desire.
Arjuna petitions Śiva (Tryambaka) to learn the divine weapons possessed by the gods, and Śiva responds by granting them—marking Arjuna’s empowerment for the dharmic struggle ahead.
