Vāyu said: “All of them, mounted on chariots and displaying varied ornaments and banners, closed in and engaged the king of Śālva’s forces—those many formidable companies of warriors, O joy of the Kurus. Unable to endure Śālva’s assault, Cārudeṣṇa, Sāmba, and the great chariot-warrior Pradyumna, armoured and splendidly adorned, took to their chariots and met Śālva’s best fighters in battle.”

Educational Q&A

The passage highlights kṣatriya-dharma: when faced with an unjust or overwhelming assault, capable warriors should not collapse into fear but organize themselves, take up proper arms, and confront aggression with disciplined courage.

Vāyu describes a battle scene: warriors mounted on chariots with banners and ornaments engage the king of Śālva’s many elite fighters. Specifically, Cārudeṣṇa, Sāmba, and Pradyumna, armoured and on chariots, clash with Śālva’s foremost warriors after being unable to tolerate his attack.
