Lomaśa said: Then Indra granted him the boons requested by that great ascetic and declared, “The Vedas will become manifest to you, together with your father, exactly as you desire. Moreover, whatever else you wish shall also be fulfilled. Now give up this austerity and return to your hermitage.” Thus, having attained his aim, Yavakrīta went to his father and spoke accordingly.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights that spiritual effort (tapas) can lead to the fulfillment of aims, but the highest boon is right knowledge (the Vedas). It also implies an ethical caution: once the purpose is achieved, one should return to one’s proper station and duties rather than remain attached to austerity as an end in itself.

Lomaśa narrates that Indra, pleased with Yavakrīta’s austerities, grants him the requested boons—especially the desired access to Vedic knowledge along with his father—and instructs him to stop the penance and return to his hermitage. Yavakrīta, now successful, goes back to his father to report what occurred.
