Akṛtavraṇa said: He went to the lovely Badarī, to the precincts of his own hermitage. Indra explained what actions were necessary for the welfare of all living beings. Thereafter, the Lord Viṣṇu—revered by the whole world—pledged to accomplish all those tasks and set out for the exceedingly beautiful sacred ford of Badarī, where his own spacious hermitage stood.

Educational Q&A

The passage emphasizes lokahita—acting for the welfare of all beings—as a guiding principle of dharma. Indra identifies what must be done, and Viṣṇu models ethical resolve by taking a clear vow to carry out that necessary work.

After receiving Indra’s guidance about the required tasks for universal welfare, Viṣṇu promises to accomplish them and proceeds on a pilgrimage to the beautiful Badarī tīrtha, returning to the region of his own expansive hermitage.
