Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ideal of an āśrama as a space of beauty, order, and sufficiency—where the environment supports calm living and spiritual pursuit. The abundance of sweet, desirable fruits suggests a setting conducive to restraint and dharma, not scarcity-driven conflict.

Lomaśa is describing a remarkable hermitage landscape: it is surrounded by crafted (kṛtrima) trees decorated with many kinds of flowers and fruits, with shrubs and creepers spread over them, producing sweet and desirable fruits.
