Dambhodbhava, Nara-Nārāyaṇa, and the Counsel to Abandon Hubris
Udyoga-parva 94

Vaiśaṃpāyana said: “Then, O scorcher of foes, be fulfilled in your aims together with your sons; enjoy the pleasures of life. O best of the Bharatas, be calm—do not fall under the sway of anger. Grant the Pāṇḍavas their proper share of the ancestral kingdom, and, with your sons, live with your wishes accomplished, enjoying the delights you desire. You know that Ajātaśatru (Yudhiṣṭhira) ever stands firm in the dharma upheld by the good. Nor are you unaware of how he, together with his brothers, has behaved toward you. Though you sought to burn them in the house of lac and drove them from kingdom and country, they still returned again to you for refuge.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A ruler should restrain anger, act justly, and uphold dharma by granting rightful inheritance; ethical governance and reconciliation are presented as superior to vindictive power politics.
Vaiśaṃpāyana reports counsel directed to Dhṛtarāṣṭra: calm down, do not be ruled by anger, give the Pāṇḍavas their proper ancestral share, and recognize Yudhiṣṭhira’s steadfast dharma—despite past attempts to destroy and exile them, they still sought refuge with the Kuru elders.
