Udyoga Parva, Chapter 81: Krishna Sets Out as Envoy
सत्यं ते प्रतिजानामि कृष्णे बाष्पो निगृहताम् । हतामित्रज्श्रिया युक्तानचिराद् द्रक्ष्यसे पतीन्,“कृष्णे! अपने आँसुओंको रोको। मैं तुमसे सच्ची प्रतिज्ञा करके कहता हूँ, तुम शीघ्र ही देखोगी कि सारे शत्रु मार डाले गये और तुम्हारे पति राज्यलक्ष्मीसे सम्पन्न हैं!
satyaṃ te pratijānāmi kṛṣṇe bāṣpo nigṛhyatām | hatāmitraj-śriyā yuktān acirād drakṣyase patīn ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “O Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī), restrain your tears. I make you a true pledge: before long you will see your husbands endowed with royal fortune, with their enemies slain.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes truthful assurance and moral steadiness in crisis: grief is acknowledged but should be restrained when grounded in a righteous vow and confidence that justice will prevail.
The speaker addresses Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī), urging her to stop weeping and promising that soon she will witness her husbands restored to prosperity after their enemies are slain—foreshadowing the coming war and its outcome.
