Udyoga Parva, Chapter 81: Krishna Sets Out as Envoy
dhārtarāṣṭrāḥ kālapakvā na cec chṛṇvanti me vacaḥ | śeṣyante nihatā bhūmau śvaśṛgālādanīkṛtāḥ ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: “If the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra—ripe for Time’s doom—do not heed my words, they will be struck down and left upon the earth, becoming food for dogs and jackals.”
Ignoring righteous counsel and persisting in adharma leads to inevitable downfall; when one is ‘kālapakva’ (ripe for Time), stubborn refusal to listen accelerates destruction and disgrace.
The narrator frames a warning about the Dhārtarāṣṭras (Kauravas): if they do not heed the speaker’s words, they will be slain in the coming conflict and left unburied, a grim image emphasizing the nearness of war and the cost of rejecting peace-making counsel.
