Dvārakāyāṃ Sāhāyya-vibhāgaḥ (Alliance Allocation at Dvārakā) /
pūrvaṃ cābhigataṃ santaḥ bhajante pūrvasāriṇaḥ | tvaṃ ca śreṣṭhatamo loke satām adya janārdana | satataṃ sammataś caiva sadvṛttam anupālaya ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: “The good honor and follow what has been practiced and approved from earlier times; they walk in the path laid down by the elders. And you, Janārdana, are today the foremost among the virtuous in the world—ever respected. Therefore, continually uphold right conduct.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse teaches that virtuous people rely on time-tested, inherited standards of conduct (sadācāra), and that a respected leader like Kṛṣṇa should continually uphold and model such righteous behavior for society.
In Vaiśaṃpāyana’s narration, Kṛṣṇa (addressed as Janārdana) is praised as foremost among the virtuous and is urged to maintain exemplary conduct, grounding present action in the authority of established righteous tradition.
