When the Vārṣṇeya (Kṛṣṇa) awoke, he saw Kīrīṭin (Arjuna) standing before him. He then welcomed them both, and, in due form, honored the two with proper courtesies—upholding the etiquette owed to guests and allies at a critical moment.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even amid impending conflict, dharma expresses itself through restraint and proper conduct: welcoming guests, honoring allies, and observing etiquette (svāgata, yathāvat pratipūjā) are ethical duties that sustain trust and social order.
Kṛṣṇa wakes and sees Arjuna standing before him; he then formally welcomes and honors the two visitors, marking a courteous reception at the outset of crucial negotiations in the Udyoga Parva.
