Drupada’s Counsel on Conciliation and Alliance Mobilization
अपन बक। ] अतिफशशा+< चतुथों5 ध्याय: राजा ट्रुपदकी सम्मति दुपद उवाच एवमेतन्महाबाहो भविष्यति न संशय: । न हि दुर्योधनो राज्यं मधुरेण प्रदास्यति
drupada uvāca | evam etan mahābāho bhaviṣyati na saṁśayaḥ | na hi duryodhano rājyaṁ madhureṇa pradāsyati |
Drupada said: “So it is, O mighty-armed one; it will happen exactly thus—there is no doubt. For Duryodhana will not yield the kingdom through sweet words or courteous persuasion.”
दुपद उवाच
Mere sweetness of speech cannot move a person fixed in greed and obstinacy; ethical and political outcomes depend on character, not only on diplomacy.
Drupada responds to counsel about the coming course of events, affirming that Duryodhana will not relinquish sovereignty through conciliatory words, foreshadowing the failure of peaceful settlement.
