Vidura-nīti: Atithi-dharma, Trust, Counsel-Secrecy, and Traits of Sustainable Rule
Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 38
akrodhena jayet krodham asādhuṁ sādhunā jayet | jayet kadaryaṁ dānena jayet satyena cānṛtam ||
Vidura teaches: “Conquer anger through freedom from anger (akrodha); win over the wicked through the conduct of the good; overcome the miser by generosity; and defeat falsehood by steadfast truth (satya).”
विदुर उवाच
Victory in dharma is achieved by responding to vice with its opposite virtue: anger with calmness, wickedness with goodness, miserliness with generosity, and falsehood with truth.
In Udyoga Parva, as tensions rise toward war, Vidura offers Nīti (statecraft and moral counsel), advising that ethical strength and restraint are more effective than retaliation in resolving conflict and guiding conduct.
