Vidura advises the king that the surest course is to promote the growth and well-being of one’s lineage. Therefore, O best of kings, act rightly by strengthening your family and kin. A ruler who honors and supports his relatives and clan-members becomes united with true welfare and lasting good.
विदुर उवाच
A ruler should actively foster the prosperity of his lineage and treat his relatives with honor; such conduct leads to śreyas—true welfare and auspicious outcomes.
In Vidura’s counsel during Udyoga Parva, he urges the king to choose righteous policy: strengthen the family/clan through proper conduct and respectful care of kinsmen, implying that neglect or hostility toward one’s own kin leads to ruin.
