उद्योगपर्व — अध्याय २५: संजयदूतवाक्यम्
Sañjaya’s Envoy-Speech on Peace
स चेदेतां प्रतिपद्येत बुद्धि वृद्धो राजा सह पुत्रेण सूत । एवं रणे पाण्डवकोपदग्धा न नश्येयु: संजय धार्तराष्ट्रा:
sa ced etāṁ pratipadyeta buddhiṁ vṛddho rājā saha putreṇa sūta | evaṁ raṇe pāṇḍava-kopa-dagdhā na naśyeyuḥ sañjaya dhārtarāṣṭrāḥ ||
Sañjaya said: “O charioteer, if the aged king, together with his son, would truly adopt this understanding, then the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra would not perish—burnt by the Pāṇḍavas’ wrath—upon the battlefield.”
संजय उवाच
That prudent acceptance of right counsel—especially by rulers—can prevent needless war and avert the destruction that follows from injustice and stubborn refusal to reconcile.
Sanjaya cautions that if Dhritarashtra, along with his son (Duryodhana implied), would adopt a wiser policy, then the Kauravas would not be destroyed in battle by the Pandavas’ anger.
