Amba–Rama–Bhishma Dialogue on Vow and Refuge

tataḥ kṛtasvastyayano mātrā ca pratinanditaḥ | dvijātīn vācya puṇyāhaṃ svasti caiva mahādyute, yattuṃ sūtena śiṣṭena bahuśo dṛṣṭakarmaṇā |
Bhishma said: “Then, when the auspicious rites had been duly performed and my mother had blessed and congratulated me, I had the Brahmins pronounce the sacred ‘puṇyāha’ and ‘svasti’ benedictions. O radiant one, I then set out, conveyed by a well-trained charioteer—cultured and disciplined—whose skill in action had been witnessed many times.”
भीष्म उवाच
Before undertaking a consequential action, one should seek auspicious alignment through proper rites, blessings from elders, and the counsel/service of proven, disciplined professionals—linking personal resolve with dharmic order and social responsibility.
Bhishma describes his formal departure: auspicious ceremonies are performed, Satyavati blesses him, Brahmins recite puṇyāha and svasti benedictions, and he proceeds with a well-trained, experienced charioteer.
