Nahūṣa’s Fall Explained: Agastya’s Account to Indra (Śalya-narrated)

śatrudamana śakra! evaṃ durātmā nahuṣo devatānāṃ rājyāt bhraṣṭo 'bhavat | brāhmaṇānāṃ kaṇṭakaḥ hataḥ | saubhāgyam etat yad idānīm asmākaṃ vṛddhir bhavati || triviṣṭapaṃ prapadyasva pāhi lokāñ śacīpate | jitendriyo jitāmitraḥ stūyamāno maharṣibhiḥ ||

Agastya said: “O Śakra, tamer of foes! Thus the wicked Nahusha has fallen from the sovereignty of the gods. The thorn that afflicted the brahmins has been cut down. It is a blessing that now our welfare and prosperity are increasing. Therefore, O lord of Śacī, return to Triviṣṭapa (heaven). Having conquered your senses and subdued your enemies, and being praised by the great seers, protect the worlds.”
