Bhishma–Dhritarashtra Dialogue: Appraisal of Pandava Strength
एष विक्रान्तयोधी च चित्रयोधी च सड़रे । वीतभीश्वापि ते राजन् शत्रुभि: सह योत्स्यते
eṣa vikrāntayodhī ca citrayodhī ca saṅgare | vītabhīś cāpi te rājan śatrubhiḥ saha yotsyate ||
Bhīṣma said: “This warrior is one who fights with bold prowess and with striking, varied skill in battle. O King, he is free from fear and will engage your enemies in combat.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the kṣatriya ideal of fearlessness and disciplined prowess: a leader values warriors who combine courage with skill, and who can face enemies without panic, serving the larger duty of protection and rightful order.
Bhīṣma is describing a particular fighter to the king, praising his valor and distinctive battle-skill, and assuring that he will confront the opposing side fearlessly in the coming conflict.
