कर्ण–कृष्णसंवादः (Karṇa–Kṛṣṇa-saṃvādaḥ) — Karṇa’s Statement on Lineage, Loyalty, and the ‘Śastra-yajña’ Metaphor
स्तुवन्तु त्वां च बहुभि: स्तुतिभि: सूतमागधा: । विजयं वसुषेणस्य घोषयन्तु च पाण्डवा:
stuvantu tvāṁ ca bahubhiḥ stutibhiḥ sūtamāgadhāḥ | vijayaṁ vasuṣeṇasya ghoṣayantu ca pāṇḍavāḥ ||
Vāyu said: “Let the sūtas and māgadhas praise you with many hymns of eulogy; and let the Pāṇḍavas proclaim the victory of Vasuṣeṇa (Karna).”
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights how victory and authority are reinforced through public praise and proclamation. Ethically, it invites reflection on the difference between true merit (dharma) and socially manufactured glory, especially when war and rivalry pressure people to celebrate outcomes rather than righteousness.
Vāyu speaks of arranging public acclaim: court bards (sūtas, māgadhas) are to sing praises, and the Pāṇḍavas are to announce the victory of Vasuṣeṇa—i.e., Karna—framing him as a triumphant figure through formal, ceremonial declaration.
