Udyoga Parva Adhyāya 132 — Vidura’s Counsel on Udyama, Yaśas, and Kṣātra-Dharma
मा55त्मानमवमन्यस्व मैनमल्पेन बीभर: । मन: कृत्वा सुकल्याणं मा भैस्त्वं प्रतिसंहर
mātmānam avamanyasva mainam alpena bībharaḥ | manaḥ kṛtvā sukalyāṇaṁ mā bhaiḥ tvaṁ pratisaṁhara ||
Vāyu said: “Do not despise yourself or think yourself weak. Do not sustain this self with paltry means. Make your mind wholly auspicious—filled with noble resolve—and become fearless; gather yourself back from fear and withdraw it completely.”
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse teaches self-respect and inner fortitude: do not belittle yourself, do not live by petty supports, cultivate an auspicious mind through noble intentions, and withdraw from fear by steady self-control.
Vāyu (the Wind-god) addresses a listener with exhortation and counsel, urging them to abandon self-contempt and fear, and to stabilize the mind in auspicious resolve—guidance suited to a moment of pressure and decision in the Udyoga Parva.
