Vaiśampāyana said: “King Dhṛtarāṣṭra is himself tasting the consequence of entrusting his realm to a son who is greedy, deluded, and of corrupt intent, surrounded by wicked advisers. For how could a ruler ignore a rift spreading among his own people? Once you are separated from your own kin, your enemies will only mock you.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A ruler must not ignore divisions among his own kin and subjects; empowering a greedy, deluded heir surrounded by wicked advisers brings inevitable consequences, including loss of authority and public ridicule by enemies.
Vaiśampāyana comments on Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s predicament: by handing power to a morally compromised son with bad counsel, Dhṛtarāṣṭra now suffers the results, while internal Kuru-family dissension makes the kingdom vulnerable and invites enemy scorn.
