Thus ends the one hundred and twenty-ninth chapter of the Udyoga Parva of the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the section known as the Bhagavad-yāna Parva, in the episode concerning Gāndhārī’s words. The narration marks the formal close of this chapter, framing Gāndhārī’s counsel as a moral intervention within the diplomatic efforts that precede the great war.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
As a chapter-colophon, the verse itself teaches through framing: it highlights that Gāndhārī’s speech belongs to the ethical and dharmic discourse of the peace mission preceding war, underscoring the epic’s emphasis on counsel, restraint, and responsibility before violence becomes inevitable.
Vaiśaṃpāyana signals the formal conclusion of the chapter: the episode centered on Gāndhārī’s words within the Bhagavad-yāna section of the Udyoga Parva is complete, marking a transition point in the lead-up to the Kurukṣetra conflict.
