अध्याय १२२ — कृष्णस्य दुर्योधनं प्रति नीत्युपदेशः
Kṛṣṇa’s Ethical Counsel to Duryodhana
इदं महाख्यानमनुत्तमं हितं बहुश्रुतानां गतरोषरागिणाम् | समीक्ष्य लोके बहुधा प्रधारितं त्रिवर्गदृष्टि: पृथिवीमुपाश्चुते
idaṁ mahākhyānam anuttamaṁ hitaṁ bahuśrutānāṁ gata-roṣa-rāgiṇām | samīkṣya loke bahudhā pradhāritaṁ trivarga-dṛṣṭiḥ pṛthivīm upāśnute ||
Nārada said: “This supreme and beneficial great narrative belongs to those eminent men who were learned in many śāstras and were free from anger and attachment. Having examined it in the world from many angles and adopted the well-established conclusions it yields, a person who keeps the three aims of life—dharma, artha, and kāma—in view is able to live in and rightly enjoy this earthly life.”
नारद उवाच
A great narrative becomes truly beneficial when approached with learning, freedom from anger and attachment, and careful reflection; its established conclusions guide a balanced life oriented to dharma, artha, and kāma.
Nārada is praising an exemplary upākhyāna as a tested source of guidance: it has been examined widely, its principles are settled, and it helps a listener cultivate a disciplined outlook and live well in the world.
