Narada said: “After King Puṇḍarīka had performed the sacrifice, he bestowed the horses as ritual gifts (dakṣiṇā) upon the twice-born Brahmins. Thereafter, other kings purchased from those Brahmins two hundred horses each and thus obtained them.”
नारद उवाच
The verse underscores dharmic kingship expressed through yajña and dāna: wealth is offered to the Brahmins as dakṣiṇā, yet it may legitimately circulate back into worldly use through fair purchase—showing a balance between religious merit and practical governance.
Nārada narrates that King Puṇḍarīka, after completing a sacrifice, gifted horses to Brahmins; later, other kings bought two hundred horses each from those Brahmins and thereby acquired them.
