Gālava’s Eastern Ascent with Garuḍa; Counsel on Kāla and Upāya
kasya kāryaṃ kim iti vai parikrośanti gālava | vipravara gālava! iha pratidinaṃ sabere ca saṃdhyā-kāle sarve dikpālā ekatra bhūtvā uccaiḥ-svarena etat pṛcchanti—kasya kiṃ kāryam iti |
Yuparṇa said: “O Gālava, best of brāhmaṇas! Here, every day at dawn and again at twilight, all the guardians of the directions assemble together and loudly ask, ‘Whose task is it, and what is to be done?’”
युपर्ण उवाच
The verse highlights dharma as orderly responsibility: at prescribed times (dawn and twilight), cosmic authorities inquire about pending duties, implying that work and obligation should be clearly identified and undertaken in harmony with established order.
Yuparṇa addresses the sage Gālava and describes a recurring scene: the dikpālas gather at dawn and twilight and loudly ask whose duty it is and what task must be performed, setting a tone of vigilant oversight and purposeful action.
