Yuparaṇa said: “Here, on Mount Kailāsa, the giver of wealth—Kubera—was consecrated to sovereignty, to rule over the Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, and Gandharvas. In this very northern region lies the delightful Caitraratha grove, and here too is the hermitage of the Vaikhānasa sages, O Gālava.”
युपर्ण उवाच
The verse highlights legitimate sovereignty as something conferred through consecration (abhiṣeka) and tied to sacred order: rulership is not mere force but an instituted responsibility within a cosmic and moral geography, alongside the presence of ascetic hermitages that represent restraint and dharmic balance.
Yuparaṇa is describing notable northern sacred sites to Gālava: Mount Kailāsa where Kubera was installed as overlord, the beautiful Caitraratha grove, and the nearby Vaikhānasa sages’ hermitage—mapping a mythic landscape and its key inhabitants.
