Strī Parva 1: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Lament and Saṃjaya’s Consolation
तथैव कौरवो राजा धर्मपुत्रो महामना: । कृपप्रभृतयश्चैव किमकुर्वत ते त्रय:,इसी प्रकार कुरुवंशी राजा महामनस्वी धर्मपुत्र युधिष्ठिरने तथा कृपाचार्य आदि तीनों महारथियोंने भी इसके बाद क्या किया?
tathaiva kauravo rājā dharmaputro mahāmanāḥ | kṛpaprabhṛtayaś caiva kim akurvata te trayaḥ ||
Janamejaya asked: “Likewise, what did the Kuru king, the noble-minded Dharmaputra (Yudhiṣṭhira), and those three great warriors beginning with Kṛpa do thereafter?”
जनमेजय उवाच
The verse frames ethical inquiry after catastrophe: it highlights the importance of asking what righteous leaders and surviving elders did next, implying that conduct after war—how one responds in grief, responsibility, and governance—is a key measure of dharma.
Janamejaya continues questioning Vaiśaṃpāyana about the immediate aftermath: he asks what Yudhiṣṭhira and the three remaining senior warriors led by Kṛpa did following the preceding events.
