The Prelude to Questioning Bhīṣma on the Bed of Arrows
यश्नैतेन प्रमाणेन योक्ष्यत्यात्मानमात्मना । स फल सर्वपुण्यानां प्रेत्य चानुभविष्यति
yad etena pramāṇena yokṣyaty ātmānam ātmanā | sa phalaṃ sarvapuṇyānāṃ pretya cānubhaviṣyati ||
Vāyu said: Whoever, taking this instruction as an authoritative standard, disciplines and yokes his own self by his own inner effort—he, after death, will experience the fruit of all merits, as though he had gathered every kind of righteousness.

To accept the given instruction as a trustworthy standard (pramāṇa) and, through one’s own effort, bring the self under disciplined control; such inner mastery is said to yield the comprehensive reward of merit.
Vāyudeva is speaking and concludes with a promise of फल (phala): anyone who embodies the teaching in lived practice—‘yoking the self by the self’—will, after death, experience the fruits of all kinds of पुण्य (puṇya).
