Bhīṣma’s Śara-śayyā Stuti to Vāsudeva and Yogic Preparation for Dehotsarga
Body-Relinquishment
यथा विष्णुमयं सत्यं यथा विष्णुमयं जगत् । यथा विष्णुमयं सर्व पाप्मा मे नश्यतां तथा
yathā viṣṇumayaṃ satyaṃ yathā viṣṇumayaṃ jagat | yathā viṣṇumayaṃ sarvaṃ pāpmā me naśyatāṃ tathā ||
Bhīṣma said: “As truth is pervaded by Viṣṇu, as the whole world is pervaded by Viṣṇu, and as everything whatsoever is pervaded by Viṣṇu—so, by the power of this truth, may my sin be destroyed.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse affirms Viṣṇu’s all-pervading presence in truth, the world, and all things, and invokes the purifying power of satya (truth) as a force that destroys moral impurity (pāpmā).
Bhīṣma, in the instruction-filled Śānti Parva, utters a truth-formula (satya-vacana) that functions like a vow or solemn affirmation, seeking the destruction of his sins through the spiritual efficacy of truth grounded in Viṣṇu’s omnipresence.
