By enumerating revered sages and divine figures, the text reinforces the ethical ideal that dharma is preserved through remembered exemplars—those whose austerity, learning, and spiritual authority become standards for conduct and instruction.
Vaiśaṃpāyana is listing notable sages (and a deity) as part of a broader catalog within the Śānti Parva’s discourse, situating the teaching in an authoritative lineage of respected figures.
