भीष्मस्तु पुरुषव्याप्र: कर्मणा मनसा गिरा
bhīṣmas tu puruṣavyāghraḥ karmaṇā manasā girā
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: But Bhīṣma—lion among men—upheld dharma through his deeds, his mind, and his speech.
वैशग्पायन उवाच
Moral excellence is holistic: dharma is upheld not only by outward deeds but also by inner intention and truthful, disciplined speech—action, mind, and word must align.
Vaiśaṃpāyana continues describing Bhīṣma’s exemplary stature, characterizing him as a foremost man whose conduct is marked by integrity across deed, thought, and speech.
