Yudhiṣṭhira’s Post-Accession Settlements and Approach to Vāsudeva (युधिष्ठिरस्य राज्यस्थापनं वासुदेवाभिगमनं च)
तथा<नुजीविनो भृत्यान् संश्रितानतिथीनपि । कामै: संतर्पयामास कृपणांस्तर्ककानपि
tathānujīvino bhṛtyān saṁśritān atithīn api | kāmaiḥ santarpayāmāsa kṛpaṇāṁs tarkakān api ||
Likewise, he gratified with desired enjoyments those dependents and servants who lived by his support, as well as those who had sought his protection and the guests who arrived. He also satisfied the poor and distressed, and even the reasoners and question-answerers (such as astrologer-interpreters) who were consulted.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights rājadharma expressed through generosity: a householder/king should sustain dependents, honor guests, protect those who seek refuge, and relieve the poor—ensuring social stability and moral order through timely, appropriate giving.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that the central figure (the patron/king being described) distributes enjoyable provisions and support to various groups—servants and dependents, refugees, guests, the destitute, and professional advisers—thereby fulfilling obligations of hospitality, protection, and charity.
