Śānti-parva Adhyāya 44 — Post-War Reassignment of Residences and Restorative Consolation (शान्तिपर्व अध्याय ४४)
ततो दुर्योधनगृहं प्रासादैरुपशोभितम् । बहुरत्नसमाकीर्ण दासीदाससमाकुलम्
tato duryodhana-gṛhaṃ prāsādair upaśobhitam | bahu-ratna-samākīrṇaṃ dāsī-dāsa-samākulam ||
Then they came to Duryodhana’s residence, adorned with lofty mansions. It was filled with abundant treasures of many kinds and crowded with male and female servants ready for service. In the narrative’s ethical frame, the scene underscores the transfer of royal wealth and privilege under the authority of elders and kingship—external splendor standing in tension with the inner discipline and restraint expected of those who wield power.
