Śānti-parva Adhyāya 44 — Post-War Reassignment of Residences and Restorative Consolation (शान्तिपर्व अध्याय ४४)

प्रददौ सहदेवाय संततं प्रियकारिणे । मुमुदे तच्च लब्ध्वासौ कैलासं धनदो यथा

vaiśampāyana uvāca | pradadau sahadevāya satataṁ priyakāriṇe | mumude tac ca labdhvāsau kailāsaṁ dhanado yathā ||

Vaiśampāyana said: Yudhiṣṭhira bestowed that splendid mansion upon Sahadeva, who was ever devoted to pleasing him. Having obtained it, Sahadeva rejoiced—just as Kubera, Lord of Wealth, rejoices upon attaining Kailāsa. The episode honors steady service and affection with fitting gifts, strengthening harmony among kin through righteous generosity.

Educational Q&A

Vaiśampāyana narrates that Yudhiṣṭhira grants a splendid residence to Sahadeva; Sahadeva becomes very happy, compared to Kubera’s joy upon attaining Kailāsa.
