अनुग्राह्मया वयं नूनं भवतामिति मे मति: । यदेवं गुणसम्पन्नानस्मान् ब्रूथ विमत्सरा:
anugrāhyā vayam nūnaṁ bhavatām iti me matiḥ | yad evaṁ guṇasampannān asmān brūtha vimatsarāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “It is surely your kindness that has made us worthy of your regard—such is my conviction. For you, free from envy, speak to us in this manner, treating us as people endowed with good qualities.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights ethical speech rooted in vimatsaratā (freedom from envy) and the humility of attributing honor and recognition to the listener’s kindness (anugraha), not to one’s own merit.
Vaiśampāyana acknowledges the interlocutors’ gracious, non-envious manner of addressing him and his group as virtuous, interpreting their respectful words as an act of favor and goodwill.
