Atithi-prāpti and the Brāhmaṇa’s Deliberation on Triadic Dharma (अतिथिप्राप्तिः धर्मत्रयविचारश्च)
सुतप्तं च तपो देवा ममाराधनकाम्यया । भोक्ष्यथास्य महासत्त्वास्तपस: फलमुत्तमम्
sutataptaṃ ca tapo devā māmārādhanakāmyayā | bhokṣyathāsya mahāsattvāstapasaḥ phalam uttamam ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “O gods of great steadfastness, you have undertaken and endured severe austerities out of the desire to worship and please me. You shall surely enjoy the supreme reward that arises from that tapas.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Sincere, well-endured tapas performed with devotional intent bears a definite and elevated fruit; spiritual effort is portrayed as morally efficacious and reliably rewarded.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana reports a divine assurance addressed to the gods: because they have performed intense austerities to offer worship, they are promised the highest result of that ascetic practice.
