Bhishma said: “Then, with food suited to the proper time and occasion, he fully satisfied him. After offering the customary honors—water for washing the feet (pādya), arghya, and the like—he worshipped Śukadeva with excellent propriety, fed him with seasonally appropriate and delicious fare, and brought him to complete contentment.”

Educational Q&A

Dharma is expressed through timely and respectful hospitality: honoring a worthy guest—especially a sage—by offering traditional courtesies (pādya, arghya, etc.) and providing suitable food with proper etiquette, thereby cultivating humility, reverence, and social-ritual order.

The host receives Śukadeva and performs formal guest-honors, worships him according to proper procedure, and then feeds him with seasonally appropriate, delicious food until he is fully satisfied; Bhīṣma narrates this as an example of correct conduct.
