Śuka’s Guṇa-Transcendence and Vyāsa’s Consolation (शुकगति-वर्णनम्)

ज्ञाननिष्ठां वदन्त्येके मोक्षशास्त्रविदो जना: | कर्मनिष्ठां तथैवान्ये यतय: सूक्ष्मदर्शिन:,मोक्षशास्त्रका ज्ञान रखनेवाले एक श्रेणीके लोग कहते हैं कि ज्ञाननिष्ठा ही मोक्षका साधन है तथा दूसरे सूक्ष्मदर्शी यति लोग कर्मनिष्ठाको ही मुक्तिका उपाय बताते हैं

Some people, learned in the teachings of moksha, say that steadfastness in knowledge alone (jnana-nishtha) is the means to liberation; others—yatis of subtle vision—declare that steadfastness in action (karma-nishtha) is the very path to freedom.
