न सुखेन न दुःखेन कदाचिदपि वर्तते । सेयं भावात्मिका भावांस्त्रीनेतान् परिवर्तते
It never abides in pleasure, nor does it ever abide in pain. This intellect, whose very nature is made of dispositions, turns and transforms in accord with these three states; when tamas predominates and it is veiled by delusion, it joins neither with pleasure nor with suffering, but remains sunk in sleep, sloth, and inertia. Thus does this disposition-born intellect follow the three states.
भीष्म उवाच
