Mokṣa-dharma: Cutting the Bonds of Attachment
नित्यतृप्तः सुसंतुष्ट: प्रसन्नवदनेन्द्रिय: । विभीर्जप्यपरो मौनी वैराग्यं समुपाश्रित:
nityatṛptaḥ susantuṣṭaḥ prasannavadanendriyaḥ | vibhīr japyaparo maunī vairāgyaṃ samupāśritaḥ ||
Bhīṣma said: One should remain ever content and fully satisfied, keeping the face and the senses calm and cheerful. Let fear not gain entry. Devoted to repetition of sacred sound—such as the syllable Oṃ—one should be restrained in speech, abiding in silence and taking refuge in dispassion. In the ethical frame of the Śānti teachings, this describes the inner discipline by which a person becomes steady, harmless, and fit for higher knowledge.
