Kapila and Syūmaraśmi on Renunciation, Householder Support, and Epistemic Authority
लोके यः सर्वभूते भ्यो ददात्यभयदक्षिणाम् | स सर्वयज्जैरीजान: प्राप्नोत्यभयदक्षिणाम्
loke yaḥ sarvabhūtebhyo dadāty abhayadakṣiṇām | sa sarvayajñair ijānaḥ prāpnoty abhayadakṣiṇām ||
Tūladhāra said: In this world, one who grants the gift of fearlessness to all living beings is as though he had performed every sacrifice; and he, in turn, receives fearlessness from all sides.
तुलाधार उवाच
Granting fearlessness—protecting beings from harm and anxiety—is presented as a supreme ethical gift, equal in value to performing all ritual sacrifices, and it yields reciprocal security and goodwill from the world.
In Tūladhāra’s instruction on dharma, he elevates non-harming and protection of all creatures above ritualism, stating that the person who gives universal safety gains the merit of all yajñas and is himself met with safety from every direction.
