Kapila–Cow Dialogue: Authority of Householder and Renunciant Dharmas
फिर क्रमश: वे सब पक्षी बहुत दिनोंके लिये जाने और आने लगे, अब वे हृष्ट-पुष्ट और बलवान हो गये थे। अत: बाहर निकल जानेपर जल्दी नहीं लौटते थे ।।
kadācin māsamātreṇa samutpatya vihaṅgamāḥ | naivāgacchaṃs tato rājan prātiṣṭhata sa jājaliḥ ||
Bhishma said: “O King, in time the birds grew strong and well-nourished, and so when they flew out they did not return quickly. Once, after taking wing, they did not come back for a full month. Seeing this, the sage Jājali left that place and set out elsewhere.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights steadiness and non-attachment in dharmic practice: when external supports or expected outcomes do not appear, one should not cling or despair but proceed wisely, adjusting one’s course without abandoning inner discipline.
The birds that had been coming and going stop returning for a month after flying out. In response, the sage Jājali leaves that place and goes elsewhere.
