bhīṣma uvāca evam uktaḥ tu daityendro balir indreṇa bhārata | jagāma dakṣiṇām āśām udīcī tu puraṃdaraḥ ||
Bhishma said: “O Bharata, when Indra had spoken thus, Bali—the lord of the Daityas—departed toward the southern quarter, while Purandara (Indra) himself went toward the northern quarter.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined adherence to spoken terms and proper boundaries: even powerful opponents act within an agreed framework, reflecting dharmic restraint and orderly governance.
After Indra’s statement, Bali (chief of the Daityas) leaves toward the south, and Indra (Purandara) proceeds toward the north, marking a separation of paths following their exchange.
