Sandhi–Vigraha in Āpada: The Mouse and the Cat (सन्धिविग्रहापदि—मूषकमार्जारसंवादः)
idaṃ kāyavyacaritaṃ yo nityam anucintayet | nāraṇyebhyo hi bhūtebhyo bhayaṃ prāpnoti kiṃcana ||
Bhīṣma said: “Whoever constantly reflects upon this account of Kāyavya’s conduct does not incur even the slightest fear from forest-dwelling creatures. The teaching is that steady remembrance of exemplary discipline and right conduct steadies the mind and removes anxiety even amid wilderness and danger.”
भीष्म उवाच
Regular contemplation on an exemplar of right conduct (Kāyavya’s carita) cultivates inner steadiness, so that external threats—symbolized by wild forest creatures—no longer generate fear.
Bhīṣma is concluding a didactic point: he recommends daily reflection on the story of Kāyavya’s conduct and states its fruit (phala)—freedom from fear even in the wilderness.
