Ānṛśaṃsya, Amātya-Guṇa, and Reconciliatory Counsel (आनृशंस्य–अमात्यगुण–संधि-उपदेशः)
आगन्ता मदगृहं तात वैदेह: सत्यसंगर: । अथाहं त॑ नियोक्ष्यामि तत् करिष्यत्यसंशयम्
āgantā madagṛhaṃ tāta vaidehaḥ satyasaṅgaraḥ | athāhaṃ taṃ niyokṣyāmi tat kariṣyaty asaṃśayam, tāta |
My child, the Videha king—Janaka, steadfast in truth—will come to my dwelling. Then I shall assign him a task, and he will carry it out without doubt, for his pledge does not waver.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights satya-niṣṭhā—steadfast commitment to truth and promises. A truly righteous person (here, Janaka) is portrayed as reliably fulfilling what is enjoined, emphasizing ethical integrity and trustworthiness as central to dharma.
Bhishma tells his listener that King Janaka of Videha, renowned for his fidelity to truth, will come to his dwelling. Bhishma intends to assign him a duty, confident that Janaka will certainly carry it out because of his unwavering character.
