जनकस्य युद्धोपदेशः — Janaka’s Instruction on Steadfast Battle-Conduct
हर्षयेयुविंषण्णांश्व व्यवस्थाप्य परस्परम् । जितां च भूमिं रक्षेत भग्नान् नात्यनुसारयेत्
harṣayeya viṣaṇṇānś ca vyavasthāpya parasparam | jitāṃ ca bhūmiṃ rakṣeta bhagnān nātyanusarayet ||
Bhīṣma said: If one’s troops become dejected or begin to slacken, the commander should restore them to their proper formation, stationing them in mutual support, and raise their joy and fighting spirit. He should secure and protect the ground already won; but he should not pursue the routed enemy too far, even if they are fleeing in defeat.
