ऋषिसमागमः — युधिष्ठिरस्य शोकवर्णनम्
Sage Assembly and Yudhiṣṭhira’s Articulation of Grief
कथं नु तस्य संग्रामे पृथिवी चक्रमग्रसत्
kathaṁ nu tasya saṅgrāme pṛthivī cakram agrasat
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “How, in that battle, did the earth swallow up his discus?”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse highlights a dharmic mode of inquiry: Yudhiṣṭhira seeks the moral and causal explanation behind an extraordinary event in war, implying that even battlefield outcomes may be shaped by forces beyond mere human prowess.
Yudhiṣṭhira asks how, during a particular battle, the earth came to engulf a warrior’s discus (cakra), treating it as a striking, almost miraculous occurrence that demands explanation.
