मोघं दुर्योधनश्षक्रे तत्रा भूद् विस््मयो महान् । परंतु महाबली दुर्योधनको इससे तनिक भी घबराहट नहीं हुई। उसने फुर्तीसे इधर-उधर होकर उस प्रहारको व्यर्थ कर दिया। यह देख वहाँ सब लोगोंको महान् आश्चर्य हुआ ।। ४७ न् |! सा तु मोघा गदा राजन् पतन्ती भीमचोदिता,चालयामास पृथिवीं महानिर्घातनि:स्वना । राजन! भीमसेनकी चलायी हुई वह गदा जब व्यर्थ होकर गिरने लगी, उस समय उसने वज्रपातके समान महान् शब्द प्रकट करके पृथ्वीको हिला दिया
sa tu moghā gadā rājan patantī bhīmacoditā | cālayāmāsa pṛthivīṃ mahānirghātaniḥsvanā ||
Sañjaya said: O King, that mace—hurled by Bhīmasena—fell without effect. As it struck down in vain, it resounded like a thunderbolt’s crash, shaking the earth with a tremendous, impact-born roar. Seeing this, all there were filled with great astonishment.
संजय उवाच
Even when an action fails to achieve its immediate aim (moghā), it can still produce powerful consequences; the episode highlights the volatility of war and the need for steadiness amid sudden turns.
Bhīma hurls a mace, but it does not strike effectively and falls; its heavy impact produces a thunder-like roar that shakes the earth, emphasizing the ferocity of the duel and the battlefield’s awe.
