Vaiśaṃpāyana said: By the approval of Indra, lord of the gods, many fearsome bands began to follow the great-souled Skanda, the younger one. Their disguises were of many kinds and strange in appearance; they spoke in many different tongues. Thus, along with many others, these terrifying hosts—meant to strike fear into enemies—moved in attendance upon Skanda with the consent of the king of the gods.

The passage highlights divinely sanctioned leadership: when authority is aligned with cosmic order (Indra’s consent), even formidable and fear-inducing forces are organized under a rightful commander (Skanda). It also implies that power in war is not merely physical but includes psychological impact (fear, disguise, many tongues).
Vaiśaṃpāyana describes various terrifying gaṇas—strangely dressed and speaking many languages—who, with Indra’s approval, begin to follow and attend upon the great-souled Skanda.
