Dvaipāyana-hrade Duryodhanasya Māyā — Yudhiṣṭhirasya Dharmoktiḥ (Śalya-parva, Adhyāya 30)
आज म्मु: शिबिरं हृष्टा दृष्टवा दुर्योधनं नृपम् । वार्यमाणा: प्रविष्टाश्ष॒ भीमसेनस्य पश्यत:
adya smaḥ śibiraṃ hṛṣṭā dṛṣṭvā duryodhanaṃ nṛpam | vāryamāṇāḥ praviṣṭāś ca bhīmasenasya paśyataḥ ||
Sañjaya said: “Today, after seeing King Duryodhana, they entered the camp in high spirits. Though they were being restrained, they still forced their way in—right before Bhīmasena’s eyes.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how collective excitement and loyalty to a leader can override restraint and caution, showing the ethical tension between disciplined conduct and impulsive, morale-driven action in wartime.
Sañjaya reports that certain people, thrilled after seeing Duryodhana, entered the military camp despite attempts to stop them, doing so openly in Bhīmasena’s presence.
