द्वैपायनह्रदे दुर्योधनान्वेषणम् / The Search for Duryodhana at Dvaipāyana Lake
हृद॑ चैवाहमाचक्ष॑ यं प्रविष्टो नराधिप: । तब मैंने उन लोगोंसे दुर्योधनका कुशल-समाचार बताया तथा दुर्योधनने मुझे जो संदेश दिया था, वह भी सब उनसे कह सुनाया और जिस सरोवरमें वह घुसा था, उसका भी पता बता दिया
hṛdaṁ caivāham ācakṣaṁ yaṁ praviṣṭo narādhipaḥ |
Sanjaya said: “I also disclosed the very lake into which the king had entered.” In context, Sanjaya told the gathered warriors of Duryodhana’s welfare, delivered the message entrusted to him, and revealed the location of the lake where Duryodhana lay concealed—turning secrecy into disclosure and hastening the final, morally fraught confrontation as restraint in war collapsed.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how, in the breakdown of dharmic restraint during war, information itself becomes a weapon: revealing a hidden refuge can decide outcomes, raising ethical questions about truth-telling, loyalty, and the limits of righteous conduct in extreme conflict.
Sañjaya reports that he informed the others of the specific lake where Duryodhana had entered and was hiding, along with conveying Duryodhana’s welfare and message—setting the stage for the warriors to locate him and bring the conflict to its decisive end.
